Hampshire & Isle of Wight Amphibian & Reptile Group

About

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Amphibian & Reptile Group survey and help manage over 200 sites across Hampshire. The group welcomes anyone who would like to volunteer their time to help with activities such as conducting reptile transects and pond surveys, and recording species and their numbers. The group also have regular habitat management sessions, where you can get involved in helping to maintain sites, making them better for the animals that live there. Volunteers also help out at public events, helping the group to spread the word about the amazing reptiles and amphibians we are trying to protect, and why they are important.

About Hampshire & IOW Amphibian & Reptile Group

Hampshire and IOW is fortunate that the county covers a huge geographic area and a very diverse breadth of habitat. It is therefore unsurprising that Hampshire and IOW are host to 12 out of the 13 native amphibians and reptiles in UK, including rarities such as the Natterjack Toad, Sand Lizard and Smooth Snake, and wherever you live in the county there will be opportunities to survey and monitor an assemblage of amphibian and reptile species. HIWARG formed in 2018 and is an affiliated independent ARG-UK group. The group focus is conservation of native UK species essentially around habitat management, surveying, public engagement, volunteer training and doing as much as possible to understand and protect the native species in Hampshire and IOW. All members are volunteers with a common interest.
