Headway Basingstoke
About
Making a Referral: Referrals can be made by a healthcare professional or you can self-refer. Referrals are accepted for adults with a confirmed diagnosis of acquired brain injury resulting from causes including stroke, brain tumour, encephalitis and traumatic brain injury. The person must be over 18 however, and their injury will have occurred in adulthood. Confirmation of brain injury will be sought from medical professionals working with the individual in cases of self-referral or referrals from a non-clinician – this will take additional time. The easiest way to refer is by downloading and completing the Referral Form from the website. Provide as much information as possible to enable the Headway team to make informed decisions and effective assessment of needs.

A Typical Day: There are 2 sessions a day – the day starts promptly at 10.00 and finishes at 15.00. You will bring your own packed lunch and a contribution of £2.50 for the service. At the start of each session you, other service users and staff discuss the purpose of each session and the skills and goals the session is working towards. You will be encouraged to carry out independent living skills throughout the day including activities such as serving hot drinks, loading the dishwasher, tidying after lunch.
Community Re-engagement and Outreach Service Users: Once you have progressed through the active rehabilitation and/or the ongoing rehabilitation and have reached a level of self-management and independence you may wish to use our community re-engagement and outreach programme. Designed to encourage maximum independence, you are encouraged to work in peer to peer groups to lead and manage social activities such as swimming and bowling knowing that a representative from Headway will be there to assist if necessary. As a Community re-engagement and outreach service user, you may or may not attend the centre on a regular basis. However, should you need support or assistance during a period of crisis you will have access to Headway Basingstoke’s information, advice and services.
Headway Basingstoke's Carers Services are open to anyone providing care and or support to someone with a confirmed brain injury living in the Basingstoke and North Hampshire area. This may include spouses, partners, parents, siblings, other family members or close friends.
