St. Mary’s Church has played its part in Winchfield life for over 850 years - it is believed to have been built around 1150. FSMW (Friends of St. Mary’s Winchfield) is a secular organisation created for local residents to support the fabric of this beautiful Grade I listed building and churchyard. All fund-raising activities are on a voluntary basis. The Friends have raised more than £50,000 over the past 12 years. Funds are raised from a number of regular events, including the Winchfield Festival (see seprate entry).

The Friends of St Mary's Winchfield was formed as a separate charity in 2008 to support the maintenance, repair, restoration, preservation and improvement of the church and churchyard of St Mary the Virgin Church in Winchfield.
