Hart Foodbank - Fleet

About

How Foodbanks Work: Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Food is donated: Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to a foodbank. Food is sorted and stored: Volunteers sort food to check that it is in date and pack it. Foodbanks partner with a wide range of professionals to identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher.
Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. Volunteers meet clients and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem. A typical food parcel includes: breakfast cereals, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, tinned beans, meat, vegetables, fruit, tea or coffee, sugar, biscuits, snacks. In addition to food, each parcel contains a selection of toiletries, like shampoo and toothpaste, and household products, like toilet roll and washing powder. Hart Foodbank can usually adapt your food parcel to meet your dietary needs, for example, gluten free, halal or vegetarian. When you arrive at the foodbank centre, a volunteer will chat to you about any special dietary requirements you may have.
Call the local helpline - Please call 0808 278 7864 (Monday to Thursday 9.30 - 15.30) to speak to Citizens Advice Hart, a referral partner of Hart Foodbank, who will be able to issue you with a food bank voucher if necessary. Visitors MUST have been referred and/or received a voucher before attending.
