Delivered by Odiham Cottage Hospital
The OCH Befriending Service aims to enhance the quality of life for adults living with a life-limiting illness and/or palliative care needs, i.e. the most vulnerable groups, within the western parishes of Hart District (Hartley Wintney, Hook and Odiham) and Old Basing.
The service offers clients the opportunity to reduce social isolation and to form a trusting relationship with volunteer befrienders, which in turn may enable the client to: acquire a greater degree of self-confidence and emotional growth; enhance their capacity to make use of their own resources, as well as resources available to them within the community, i.e. other voluntary organisations/statutory agencies; cultivate and maintain relationships with others.
The service is always looking for new volunteer befrienders to join their team.
Odiham Cottage Hospital is owned by the charity which supports a range of health and social day care services for local residents both at Odiham Cottage Hospital and in the community. These services include: NHS community nursing services, specialist nurse clinics and iTalk talking therapies, the Rosefield Day Centre for older people and podiatry clinics, St Michael's Hospice at home support service and complementary therapy clinics, Hart Voluntary Action’s Sunshine & Showers groups together with 1-2-1 youth and adult counselling sessions. Elsewhere in the community the charity supports link nurses, canine assisted learning sessions in local schools and a young family support group led by Homestart. The charity also runs its own volunteer led befriending service.
See the charity's web-site for more details and contact information for the various services on offer. You can support the charity by making a donation via our website or donating goods to our three charity shops in Old Basing, Odiham and Hartley Wintney.
